World Team 1999 - Thailand - December 1 - 17, 1999
by BJ Worth - bsp@cyberport.net

After months of preparation and rehearsals, 450 World Team participants from 39 nations (including skydivers, camera flyers, FAI Judges, staff, and accompanying personnel) have gathered in Thailand for the Royal Sky Celebration. This unique two week event is being organized as a tribute to Thailand's King Bhumibol - the world's longest reigning monarch - on the auspicious occasion of his 72nd birthday.

The World Team has targeted three new world records during this event. And it did the first one already on December 2, 1999! It is the Guinness Book record for the largest freefall mass jump - with 572 skydivers (including 200+ Thai jumpers) exiting from five Hercules C-130's and one Fiat G-222 over downtown Bangkok and landing on the Royal Fields, next to the Grand Palace in the center of the capital. Participating on this jump was the Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Army and US 4-star General Hugh Shelton, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. World Team '99
go there ...
324-Way The second world record being targeted is a 300-way freefall formation. On the mega-ways, the World Team skydivers will jump from four C-130's flying in formation at 22,500 feet over Ubon Ratchathani. Once a FAI World Record 300-way has been established, the World Team will attempt to set its third world record: a 324-way... or larger.
Media coverage of this event should be considerable. The World Team Media Center is providing video and still images to the international news services daily; Tom Sanders will be producing a 1-hour documentary for world-wide distribution; and five international TV production companies join the Thai and Reuters news crews on-site every day.

Check out the World Team's website for more detailed information about the Royal Sky Celebration and all its participants. Event highlights (stills and video) will be uploaded to this site daily.

North Pole Expedition 2000
August 25th - September 6th, 2000

Para World from Russia is an organizer of adventure holidays. Last year they organized an international skydiving expedition to the North Pole. Upcoming expeditions are skydiving at the North and the South Poles, high altitude jumps (40,000 ft), jumps at Peak Lenina and over Kamchatka's volcanoes.

Polar World

Now they invite all those who like exotic journeys to visit the North Pole and to witness an astonishing show of extreme sports action performed at the top of the world. The organizers are planning a cruise to the North Pole aboard the most powerful and modern ice-breaker, YAMAL. Polar world has been granted exclusive rights to organize a program of extreme actions within the framework of this expedition. So for the first time ever, balloonists, skydivers, paramotorists and scuba divers will be given a unique chance to have a magnificent celebration of seeing in the third millennium at the North Pole.
Polar World This "extreme fiesta" is featuring balloons, skydiving out of an MI-8 helicopter, paramotorists flights and scuba diving under the ice-frozen surface of the ocean, combined with the comfortable conditions provided by the world's largest ice-breaker and an exciting and informative visit to the Land of Franz-Josef Archipelago. For more information check out Polar World's Millennium Website.
