Skydiver Mike Treman was badly hurt during a BASE jump from the Tombstone cliff near Moab, Utah, July 6. During opening his canopy turned into the wall which he struck twice. He then fell to the bottom of the cliff. He suffered several broken bones but is expected to recover completely after surgery. ***

A 6-year-old child jumped with an umbrella from a five-meter high [15 feet] balcony in Sonthofen, Germany, after watching skydiving on television. The kid landed on a soft lawn without suffering any injuries. ***

Skydive USA has ceased operations at Wharton Regional Airport in Texas as of July 19, 2001. They recommend their customers to continue their skydiving activities at Skydive Houston in Waller, Texas, where the bulk of their staff and jumpers will be relocating.
